Ann Maria Young

Ann Maria Young and her Husband Carroll Brown came to Cicero FD Station 1 on Wednesday evening to thank the Paramedics and EMT’s for the lifesaving measures used to save her life.

Ann Maria’s husband was performing CPR when rescue crews arrived.  EMT’s from Cicero found her in full cardiac arrest and using an AED shock her once before NAVAC Paramedics arrived.  Patient was shocked two more times, with an airway inserted, medications administrated and other lifesaving procedures she started breathing on her own with a pulse by the time she was loaded in the ambulance.

Ann Maria spent 7 days in a coma and Physicians and Family feared the worst but on the eight day she regained consciousness.  Thirteen days later she was released from the hospital.

Press Release – Precautionary Measures to Protect Yourself

January 9, 2009

Press Release
News Channel 10 interviewed Chief Richard Carvel and Safety Officer Les Eastwood on precautionary measures to protect yourself in case of a fire.

WATCH the VIDEO Video

With the number of house fires this winter, the Cicero Fire Department has started a program to provide smoke detectors to anyone in the Town of Cicero that needs one.  A smoke detector is one of the most important ways to protect life in case of a house fire.  At least one smoke detector should be placed on every floor and near high probability locations of fire, for example a attach garage.  Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors should be check regularly and batteries replaced every six months.

“We want to protect the means of egress, the hallways, we should have one in the living area, one of each floor, I like one in the basement and then additionally it would be nice to have one in every bedroom,” said Les Eastwood, the Cicero Fire Department Safety Officer.

“It’s very easy for them to save your life. I mean it’s ridiculous in this day and age to not be protected by the smoke detectors now,” said Richard Carvel, the Cicero Fire Department Chief.
